  • MChemA Training Course - Residue Analysys

    Online seminar aimed at candidates studying for the MChemA qualification. The format is a 45-60 min presentation, followed by a short Q&A session.

    In part replacement for the annual Reading training course, a series of on-line (via Teams) seminars are being offered. The seminars are free to attend, and are aimed at candidates studying for the MChemA qualification, but would be of benefit to practicing public analysts and their staff. The format is a 45-60 min presentation, followed by a short Q&A session. Those attendees that are not currently studying would be politely asked to leave to allow further discussion by active candidates. Next seminars is: Residue analysis delivered by Simon Hird (Waters) on 6th December at 6pm. Further seminars will be arranged post-Christmas, topics for the next quarter will include animals feeds, food complaints and mycotoxins.   • Safe food for tomorrow’s world

    This conference was originally scheduled to take place in June 2020 and was postponed to June 2021 as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. In view of the ongoing restrictions for public events, we have decided to proceed with this conference as an online event which will take place on 23rd and 24th June 2021. Scientists, regulators, enforcement agencies, industry and policy makers are invited to join the Government Chemist on a virtual platform to discuss future challenges in the manufacturing, packaging, retailing and testing of food that is safe and consumers can trust. The conference programme will include national and international perspectives on assuring food safety and integrity, advances and challenges in allergen testing, the use of science for improved consumer protection and much more.

  • Webinar on fish speciation for food authenticity

    This is the first webinar in the Quarterly Webinar Series of the Joint Knowledge Transfer Framework for Food Standards and Food Safety Analysis, a cross-government project (funded by Defra, FSA, FSS and the Government Chemist) aimed at disseminating knowledge from government funded research to stakeholders to support UK laboratory capability and promote best practice in food safety and standards analysis. The webinar will take place on 3 February 2021, 14:00 (GMT) and will be presented by Dr Timothy Wilkes.

    Dr Wilkes has over 20 years' experience in the field of genetic research in academic and industrial sectors. He has extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of microarrays and qPCR technology for applications ranging from cancer diagnostics and functional gene analysis to food authenticity. The webinar will be introduced by Selvarani Elahi MBE, Deputy Government Chemist and will be followed by a Q&A session.   • Residential course on the analysis and examination of food and feed

    The Association of Public Analysts (APA) Educational Trust and the Government Chemist Programme in LGC organise an annual RSC-approved, fully residential week long postgraduate course on the analysis and examination of food and feed.
