Allergy Deaths in the Spotlight
Public Analyst Dr Duncan Campbell was interviewed for ITV’s Tonight Programme ( #ITVTonight ) broadcast at 7.30pm on 29th November 2018 on ITV1. The programme focussed on the deaths of Megan Lee and Natasha Ednan-Laperouse who were both aged 15 when they died after eating food containing undeclared allergens. In the interview he drew attention to the fact that it only takes a tiny amount of an allergen to cause a reaction in an individual with a severe allergy, with the amount of peanut protein a single peanut being enough to cause an anaphylactic shock in 25 peanut allergy suffers.
The programme is available online until late December.
